Slain Wisconsin Girl’s Heart Donated To Another Child’s Family

When a Wisconsin girl was killed in her home as she sat on the lap of her grandfather last week, the family made the heartbreaking decision to donate her heart to someone else’s child.

According to police, 5-year-old Laylah Peterson was killed Thursday evening in her Milwaukee home after being shot in the head. Roughly 12 bullets hit and went through the home.

Ed Flynn, Milwaukee police chief, said little Peterson will be in their hearts like her heart will be in somebody else’s body. It will not be just her family that remembers her but the family of the child who received her heart.

A $5,000 reward is being offered by the U.S Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for any information that leads to a conviction of the killers.

According to authorities, there has been no motive or suspect identified in the shooting, but they do not believe the family was targeted specifically. Milwaukee Police Captain Aaron Rapp said the bullet had no agenda – hitting whomever it found.

Flynn said his department was working around the clock to find the suspects who killed the little girl and ensure they got the justice they deserved.

Flynn pulled a picture of little Peterson from his left breast pocket and said it would stay there next to his grandchildren’s picture until the day the people who killed her are behind bars.

A candlelight vigil for the slain girl was set for Sunday evening at her family’s home.
