Marijuana Cake Decorator Claims To Have Been Fired Over Incident
A Georgia woman who was asked to make a marijuana-themed cake for a customer who wanted a Moana-themed cake was fired from her Dairy Queen job.
Cassandra Walker said it was the former manager who took the customer’s order and misunderstood the customer. She was given permission to make the marijuana-themed cake, and the manager stood with her as she looked on the internet for images to decorate the cake. Walker said she boxed up the cake and the manager was the one who took it to the front.
However, one of the restaurant’s owners Al Autry informed her she was fired – on her birthday – for the mistake.
The cake mistake gained nationwide attention when Kensli Taylor Davis, 25, posted the cake up on Facebook. She said it was funny, but Walker, who was employed with Dairy Queen for a year, doesn’t think it’s so funny.
Walker said she has two girls and, with back to school time and other bills to pay, she’s not finding the incident funny.
Autry did not say whether or not Walker was fired but did make a statement about the incident, saying the cake decorator made a cake based on what was heard over the phone. When the customer came to get the cake, they were informed of the problem. Apologies were quickly made, and they were asked if they wanted it redesigned the way she wanted. The customer refused, saying it was fine and paid for the cake made.
