4th Graders Sell Marijuana On School Grounds, Stole It From Grandparents

A number of fourth-graders at an elementary Colorado school were accused of trading and selling marijuana on school grounds.

Greeley School’s safety director John Gates said the matter is beyond baffling. Gates said there’s always something going on at the school but selling and trading marijuana ranks high up. After all, it’s one of the areas most promising elementary schools and it’s never had any real problems, but to deal with something like this… it’s mind-blowing.

Gates said On Monday, a 10-year-old fourth grader brought a baggy of marijuana in small quantity. However, nothing has been found as of yet.

Gates said the boy sold it to three other fourth graders while on the school playground. The next day, one the kids made an edible marijuana and gave it to the initial pot dealer.

Christine, a mother with a young child in the school, said she was afraid to take her children back to the school. She said she knows the students involved with the incident and was horrified to learn about it through a school note.

She said she didn’t think she’d have to hold the drug conversation with her six-year-old.

Regardless, a Monfort student turned each kid in – all were punished but two were suspended. Administrators said the entire thing was preventable.

According to Gates, the students obtained the marijuana from their grandparents without their knowledge.

At the district’s request, the Greeley Police are not going to file charges against the grandparents. Rather, they want to use this as a lesson for people to keep in mind.

Gates said people should secure the marijuana like anything they don’t want kids to get their hands on.

He said it can be easy to blame the kids but adults need to share in some of this responsibility.
