More Images of The Avengers Emerge as the Plot Thickens

On the heels of his summer hit movie, “Captain America: The First Avenger” comes photos from the upcoming movie featuring the star spangled hero in the upcoming movie “The Avengers”.

Captain America is a comic book character created by Jack “King” Kirby and his partner Joe Simon in the early 1940s.  He went on to fame in comic books and a black and white movie serial in the 1940s that helped the war effort.  He lost popularity in the late 40s and was revived in the early 1960’s by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for the updated Marvel Comics.  He became an instant hit and a central character to the Marvel Comics universe.

Although it took almost 50 years to bring Captain America to the major motion picture realm again thanks to updated computer special effects, the momentum of the summer hit movie that has pulled in over a quarter billion dollars at the world wide box office.  Marvel Comics’ move into the major movie industry has been highly successful with at least a good ten of the top twenty to fifty movies of all time including the Spider-Man series, X Men series, The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Blade, and more.  Marvel has over 5,000 comic book characters to exploit for film and they’ve not even scratched the surface yet.

Now comes “The Avengers”, a compilation of Marvel’s top super heroes, a team consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and several others.  Originally the Hulk was a member of the team but he went rogue and the Avengers were assembled to do one thing, stop the Hulk.  However, the movie versions of the Hulk have yet to catch up to the popularity of Spider-Man and Iron Man although both Hulk movies brought in a total of half a billion dollars worldwide which is not to be sneezed at.  Teaming up a bunch of super heroes of such popularity may end up being a boost for the genre like never before.  These new photos show Captain America star Chris Evans  battling some sort of villain portrayed by an actor in special effects motion capture outfitting.  The X Men franchise worked brilliantly with a team of super heroes but the Avengers is a staple in the Marvel fan universe and by curiosity and momentum alone the movie should be one of the biggest blockbusters of all time.  A shoe-in for the top ten movies domestically.

The upcoming movie “The Avengers”, due out in May 2012, is going to star Chris Evans, Robert Downey Junior, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Mark Ruffalo to name a few.  That line up has stars with major fandoms backing them up and by default the movie is given to be a hit but no one knows how big a hit it could be but 2012 is going to be another Marvel year.  Rumors of Wolverine appearing in the movie are floating around as well as other guest stars.  If that happens you’ll have to glue the kids to the theater seats.

  1. As a Marvel comic fan from way back I’m really looking forward to the Aveners 2012 movie. It will be the biggest of the movies based on Marvel comic book characters thus far. With Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, and Iron Man – all in the same movie how can it not be?
