Movie Critics Predict Great Outcome for “The Expendables”

Things are looking quite good for the 80’s action genre based “The Expendables” as movie critics are predicting it to blow over the competition in the silver screen. The movie is set to be released together with Julia Robert’s “Eat, Pray and Love” and “Scott Pilgrim”.

“The Expendables” is directed and starred by the main action man himself, Sylvester Stallone. The movie is said to tickle the fancy of both the younger generations and those who have lived long enough to see action flicks from the 1980’s. Pre-release surveys are predicting that the movie will be earning about $35 million worth of tickets in the continental US and Canada alone.

Its competition, “Eat, Pray and Love” are expected to attract younger generations of women only while the graphic novel series “Scott Pilgrim VS the World” is expected to attract an even narrower group of audience, namely young men who have followed on the novel series. “Eat, Pray and Love” was estimated to get around $25 million on its opening while “Scott Pilgrim VS the World”, $15 million at opening.

But in spite of this, the fact that the three movies are targeting different groups of audiences is generally good news for all the three producers. In spite of the expected competition, all three movies are expected to be hits in their own rights. Box office revenues are doing fairly good this year, 4.5% higher than the previous year which is equal to around $6.9 billion.

Lionsgate was said to have spent a whooping $20 million for getting exclusive rights to distribute “The Expendables” in the States, Canada and UK. The entire movie was said to have cost over $82 million. Along Stallone, the movie also stars Jet Li, WWE wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Jason Statham and many more.

  1. Remake? The Expendables is an original film. It’s not a remake of anything.

Note by Editor – Yes, this is not remake. It is a nostalgic action flick that recreates the 80’s era. This movie has been compared to the Wild Geese and similar action flicks of that particular era. Post edited to avoid any confusion. Thanks.
