Travis In Dallas Hospital For Grave Heart Condition
Country music icon Randy Travis is staying in a Dallas, Texas hospital and listed in critical condition after being admitted a day earlier for viral cardiomyopathy – a heart condition that’s caused by a virus.
His publicist, Kirt Webster, sent out a news release saying the star was admitted Sunday in Dallas and was listed in critical condition. No other details about his condition were made public Monday.
The ailment is just a furtherance of the 54-year-old’s latest high-profile appearances like his performance at the Country Music Association Festival.
In January, Travis plead guilty to DWI, after he was arrested last year after he wrecked his Pontiac Trans Am. The country music star was given two years’ probation, 180-day suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay $2,000. He also had to spend 30 days in an alcohol treatment facility and do 100 hours of community service.
Cardiomyopathy is a disease that causes the heart muscle to weaken and enlarge, which makes it difficult for it to pump blood and carry it throughout the body. Cardiomyopathy can lead to heart failure. Treatments vary from medications, heart transplants to surgically-implanted devices.
