TomTom HD Traffic Service Comes To Blackberry Smartphones

TomTom HD Traffic service will be offering its services on BlackBerry smartphones. The live traffic is added to the existing maps and location services that RIM has already developed for its mobile operating system.

Both companies have announced that developers have access to the features and capabilities of TomTom HD Traffic service. This makes it possible to process the traffic data in BlackBerry applications through the Locate Service development tool, where RIM made location services are accessible.

Users get access to HD Traffic with the BlackBerry Maps and Traffic apps, which RIM has developed for its mobile OS. This application supports live traffic information in real time and accurate settings. Probably RIM chose TomTom HD Traffic because the data is much more accurate.

Normally, users must pay to have access to TomTom’s HD Traffic. It is important to know that TomTom offers their services for its own navigation devices and the iPhone. Users of this service can expect to pay around $50 per year.

This can be a good partnership for both companies because TomTom and RIM have both found themselves in heavy weather. TomTom recently had a poor performing year with the decrease sales of their devices and the also the decrease of subscribers. On the other hand, RIM faces a shrinking market share and experienced their new mobile OS for the BlackBerry delayed several times.
