Plastic Pieces Inside Recalled Sausage May Be From Gloves

38,000 pounds of pork sausage is being recalled because they may have tiny pieces of plastic in them. The Smithfield Packing Company of Smithfield, Va. is issuing the recall, saying the pieces of plastic may be from gloves.

The products being recalled include:

1 pound chubs of “Gwaltney mild pork sausage roll” with a Mar. 12, 2013 use-by date.
Cases containing chubs of “Gwaltney mild pork sausage roll” with the case code 78533109741.

The company discovered the problem after it got two consumer complaints. Both Gwaltney and FSIS have gotten no injury reports because of the issue. Anybody considered about a possible injury should speak to their healthcare provider.

The recalled products were developed on Jan. 11, 2013 and distributed to 11 states and the District of Columbia. The states in the recall are: Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Maryland, Maine, New Jersey, North Carolina, New York, Texas and Pennsylvania.
