Fast and Furious Star Paul Walker Dies In Real-Life Fiery Car Accident

A southern California crash Saturday evening claimed the young life of Paul Walker, the co-star to the high-octane street racing franchise “Fast & Furious”. Walker was 40.

His death was confirmed by Ame van Iden, his publicist but was unable elaborate more than the statements on both the official Facebook and Twitter accounts.  According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, speed played a factor in the accident.

Walker, who was attending his organization’s “Reach Out Worldwide” charity event, was a passenger in a friend’s vehicle, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, when the accident happened in Valencia, a community 30 miles north of Hollywood.

According to the charity’s website, the Saturday event was meant to help the Philippines’ Typhoon Haiyan victims.

The wreck occurred around 3:30 p.m., 300 yards from where the event was being held. The speed limit for the area is 45 m.p.h. Down the road, near the accident site, were doughnut and rubber marks like someone were smoking their tires in a figure 8 pattern.

Sgt. Brian Allen, with the sheriff’s office, said it’s not known if the road marks are related to the accident.  He said deputies got to the scene with the vehicle on fire. Once the flames were extinguished, they found two people inside, both dead on the scene. By Saturday evening, the only things remaining of the accident were the burnt mangled metal and downed light post.

According to the county coroner, it is going to take a little time positively identifying the two bodies because of their condition.

Walker’s Success Through The Years

Walker began his start in Hollywood as a toddler in a Pampers commercial, moving up to bit parts in shows like “Touched By An Angel” and “Highway to Heaven”. His first roles in movies were supporting actors such as “Varsity Blues”.

Walker’s career shot off when he took the role of Brian O’Conner, an undercover officer in 2001’s “The Fast and the Furious”. The surprise hit resulted in several sequels for both Walker and his co-star Vin Diesel. Walker was in the midst of filming the franchise’s seventh film, which is set to be released next year.

A car enthusiast on and off screen, Walker often competed in the “Redline Time Attack” racing series.

Social media was on fire with news of the young actor’s death, with condolences coming from Alyssa Milano, Will Smith, DMX, Vin Diesel and more.

Walker is survived by Meadow, his 15-year-old daughter.
