Chrysler Recalls Over 870,000 SUVs Because Of Corroded Booster Brake Problem
Chrysler has issued a recall for more than 870,000 SUVs of a brake issue.
According to the company, corrosion could make the brakes more difficult to use on the following vehicles: 2011 to 2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.
The company said the issue stems from the crimp joints inside the brake boosters. If exposed to water, they can corrode. If the water should freeze, the boosters won’t help in the braking process like they typically do.
Chrysler began its investigation after several customers complained the brakes felt stiff when engaged. There has been one accident attributed to the incident but there were no injuries.
Chrysler will start letting owners of the affected vehicles soon.
Dealers will place a protective shield onto the vehicles for free and, when necessary, replace boosters that fail to work correctly.
Chrysler has already changed the booster design to ensure they are resistant to corrosion.
