Brother Arrested In Connection To Sister’s Death

The brother of a slain 8-year-old California girl has been arrested in her death by detectives Saturday.

According to Gary Kuntz, sheriff for Calaveras County, the 12-year-old brother – who he did not name – was arrested at the sheriff’s office substation in Valley Springs at 5:10 p.m. local time.

Leila Fowler was found dead April 27 in her family’s northern California home. Her brother told police he saw an unknown assailant leaving the house and found his sister suffering from multiple stab wounds. Minutes after her arrival to the hospital, the little girl died.

The police provided the public with a vague portrayal of the “suspect” who was described as being a 6-foot tall, Hispanic or white, muscular-built male. Registered offenders living in the area were interviewed, leads were ran down and searches of attics and storage sheds took place in the rural community, which is located roughly 60 miles away from Sacramento.

Authorities were looking all around the neighborhood, gathering evidence – fingerprints, DNA, etc. More than 2,000 hours were put into the investigation so that the little girl’s family could get answers about her death.

Charges on the boy were not immediately available, nor when he would appear in court and where he was being held.

The community where little Fowler lived was shaken to the core and purple ribbons were tied to many stop signs in honor of the little girl’s death.
