11,600+ Pounds of Chicken and Pork Sausages Recalled Over Metal Pieces

R.L Zeigler Co. Inc. issued a recall of over 11,600 pounds of chicken and pork sausages due to a contamination potential. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, metal pieces may be in the affected products, which puts consumers at risk.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspective Service said the recalled products have a made date Nov. 29, 2018.

According to R.L. Zeigler Co. Inc., about 11,664 pounds of its RTE Red Hot Pork and Chicken Sausage products were being recalled on the potential that very dangerous materials were accidentally in the products. The affected products are the 24 oz. Zeigler A Tradition of Great Taste Red Hots with a Use by Date of Jan. 24, 2019. The establishment number is EST. P-9156S in the inspection mark from the USDA.

The USDA said the products are available to buy in any U.S. retailer.

The recall is after many consumers complained about the issue were made between Dec. 13 and Dec. 27. Zeigler looked into the matter and found that there was indeed an issue and notified the FSIS of the USDA.

While stores were quick to take the affected products off their shelves, the USDA is concerned that some consumers have purchased them and are in their homes. Anybody who has bought the product needs to look at the packaging to determine if theirs is an affected product. For those who removed the original package, it’s best to throw out the food to reduce the chance of the metal pieces being consumed.
