Yahoo the Most Visited Website in US Says Comscore

When Marissa Mayer took over as Yahoo’s CEO, it was suggested that she’d put the web company back on top. If we are to go by Comscore’s latest survey results that shows Yahoo taking the top spot for the most visited site in US  for the month of July,  her taking the helm is certainly turning things around for the battered company.

According to Comscore, the website had close to 197 million unique visitors during the month; Google website was second best with 192 million.

Keep in mind that these figures don’t include any mobile device pageviews and Comscore noted that traffic from Yahoo’s recently attained Tumblr wasn’t added to the traffic numbers. Tumblr fell to 28th on the list with just 30 million views during July.

The traffic figures may not be the most inclusive; but it does show that Yahoo has increased its traffic 20 percent from the year before, taking the website to the coveted number one spot since May 2011.

Mayer, who spoke during the company’s second quarter earnings call, said boosting traffic was a key focus of hers since she took over the helm. She said she was also looking to employ and keep a great team, create exciting products that would entice users and bring an increase in traffic, which would then capture advertisers’ attention and produce income for the company.

Third, fourth and fifth spots were taken by Microsoft (180 million), Facebook (142 million) and AOL (117 million).
