Toyota Set To Voluntarily Recall Over 1.5M Cars

Toyota Motor Corp is set to voluntarily recall more than 1.5 million vehicles around the world to handle three different defects that include a faulty brake master cylinder, which could hamper the performance of the brake.

In an email, Toyota said it wasn’t aware of accidents, injuries or deaths from these defects. Nearly 1.05 million vehicles are being recalled in Japan with an additional 615,000 being recalled overseas. The Toyota vehicle subjected to recall include Auris, Corolla Rumion, Crown, Crown Majesta, Noah Voxy and a several Lexus models.

Automobile manufacturers are on high alert for worldwide scrutiny on how fast they provide information with the regulators and public since the 2009 massive recall calamity that hit the reputation and sales of the giant Japanese automaker. The majority of all automobile recalls are carried out voluntarily.

In April, Toyota had to recall more than six million cars around the world, making it the company’s second-biggest recall ever. And, in June, it had to issue another recall of nearly 2.3 million vehicles due to faulty airbag inflators that are problematic for other automobile manufacturers.

For this newest Toyota recall, approximately 802,000 Crown, Crown Majesta, Noah and Voxy with manufacturing dates between June 2007 and June 2012 are being recalled to replace the brake master cylinder’s rubber seal ring, which keeps brake fluid from leaking. When it leaks, the brake booster is replaced.

Another recall of nearly 760,000 vehicles around the world – 423,000 in the U.S. alone – is to repair faulty fuel delivery pipes that could possibly result in a fire. Many of these vehicles have been subjected to the first recall.

Toyota is also going to recall 190,000 front-wheel drive Auris and Corolla Rumion vehicles that were manufactured between October 2006 and October 2014. These vehicles were not furnished with an idling feature. The repair is for a defective fuel evaporative emission control unit.
