Missing Wisconsin 6-Day Old Boy Found Alive in Tote Bag In Iowa

A six-day old boy kidnapped from his home early Thursday morning in Wisconsin was located at an Iowa gas station, swaddled in blankets around 10:15 a.m. Friday morning.

Authorities with the Beloit Police Department worked feverishly with federal, state and county officials – around 100 officers – to find Kayden Powell. According to Steven Kopp, police chief in Beloit, Kayden was in good health despite the cold temperatures, and he and his parents will be reunited later Friday at an unknown hospital.

According to the FBI, Mike Horiha, the police chief in West Branch, Iowa heard Kayden’s crisis while canvassing the region around the gas station. He was found inside a tote bag that was left outside – about 200 miles from the abduction location.

Police took a woman into custody – she’s been identified as the baby’s aunt – near the gas station where the baby was found. She was seen around the Powell residence when Kayden went missing.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Myra Longfield, federal prosecutors are looking to file charges Friday against an individual.

Milwaukee’s FBI Office Acting Special Agent G.B. Jones said every lead was pursued, and that the baby was remarkably tough. He said it was a true miracle.
