Impressive Start For Google Nexus

tablet pcGoogle’s first attempt to enter the tablet market is off to a flying start with retail stores across the country running out of the Google Nexus and having to have more shipped in. Google which is better known for its search engine and android operating system has traditionally not developed hardware and allowed others to build platforms for its operating system. However like Microsoft, Google is entering the market itself in order to fight off rivals Apple and Amazon which are currently hurting its bottom line.

Many were critical of Google’s decision to enter the market and said that any product they developed will likely fail however early signs indicate the sceptics may have been wrong. The 10 inch tablet which has been developed by Google is priced relatively cheaply compared to other tablets and is meant to attack the lower end of the market where Amazon and other lower entry tablet companies currently dominate. However by offering a cheaper but still functional alternative to the iPad, Google is optimistic it might be able to undercut Apple’s market. If it can convince users of the Google, Nexus can deliver the same service and same experience as the iPad can for the half the price than they may well succeed in convincing people to buy their product as opposed to Apple’s.

The tablet has already received outstanding reviews with critics praising the device for being easy to use and functional while still offering the wide range of features the Apple iPad offers. In the past, devices other than the iPad haven’t been as intuitive as Apple’s flagship product and hence haven’t been able to compete despite being cheaper. People haven’t been prepared to sacrifice quality for value but Google’s Nexus may be able to offer both.

One of the main reasons Google is entering the market is to ensure that their website and their services online remain the premier way people access Internet. One of the issues that they have had recently is that instead of using Google and its related websites users are increasingly using Apple and Amazon based sites to begin their online experience. These companies are using their grip on the hardware market to enter and gain a foothold in the online market. Google is hoping to do the opposite. It wants to use its reputation to sell its tablets and funnel users to use its online products especially its search engines and not be tempted to use other sources.
